金斗坪村有一座龙王庙。解放前，每逢遭受旱灾，金斗坪的人便集中在庙里跪祷求雨。地主周伯元总是趁机用粮食低价买地。土地改革后，土地回到农民手里。这年夏天又遇上旱灾。村党支部书记于长水动员大家开渠引水。可是在动工的同时，仍然有八个老农民，在龙王庙敲钟鼓求雨。而且，求雨的人愈来愈多。庙里定出轮班跪香制，连参加开渠的人上下工时也去磕个头。两天之后，开渠遇上石崖，进度很慢，这一来，开渠的人更少了。于长水冥思苦索，想出了架槽的好法子，开渠的劲头又鼓了起来。当渠道通了水之后，庙里求雨的人溜得一个也不剩。作品表现了建国初期我国农民对封建迷信的斗争和胜利。
