乾隆四十二年，已是五十岁的王尔烈邀约家乡诗友十余人重游千山，他在《游千山约》中写到“盘餐唯资果腹，何事珍馐”。出于这样朴实的基调，千山诗会特别成功，王尔烈不仅本人得到了“高山天作帝王州，长白尊居望莫由”的诗句，他还把诗友们的六十几首诗汇成一册《同游千山诗录》，后经著名学者金毓黻苦心搜集，得以传世。《瑶峰集》就是金先生专门为王尔烈所编，并被列入《辽海丛书》之中。
