《蓬山志》在宋元时期主要目录书籍如《直斋书录解题》、《中兴馆阁书目》、《玉海》、《宋史·艺文志》、《文献通考》等书均已著录。陈振孙《直斋书录解题》云:“《蓬山志》五卷,秘书少监剑川罗畸畴老撰,凡十五门,崇宁四年序。”《玉海》云:“《蓬山志》五卷,崇宁四年秘书少监罗畸撰,编次馆阁故事、近事为十五门,上之。”可见该书是将馆阁故事、近事分为十五个专题加以论述的专著,作于崇宁四年(1105)。
