浙江有“方志之乡”之称,在方志发展史上地位突出。以宋元流传于世的方志为例,全国现存完整和较为完整的约有40余种,其中今浙江境域占了 19种之多。在这些方志之中,徐时栋所校勘发行的庆元府的六本方志,也就是烟屿楼本《宋元四明六志》(六志即乾道《四明图经》、宝庆《四明志》、开庆《四明续志》、延祐《四明志》、至正《四明续志》、大德《昌国州图志》),系统而完备,是极为重要的一笔。
