不慧孤露失学，罕读楹书，先世手泽之余，都归灰烬。盖自庚子劫后，寄食江南，辗转舟车，未尝终岁卒读。然龙门所谓南探禹穴，北至涿鹿，不彗蓬踪，庶几过之。其间所见所闻，颇有可歌可泣者。迩者小隐秋山，低徊旧梦，兴至命笔，聊书百一，以志不忘已耳，非敢自托著作之林，从而文其固陋也。
