在绍兴八年（1138)罢相之后，赵鼎多次受到奸佞小人的迫害，致使他屡遭迁谪。在其被贬期间，即绍兴十年（1140）,朝中大臣诬陷他有“亲奉玉音之语”“纠结保甲以拒勤王之师”“收受贿赂”“挪用公款”“勾结叛将”“汲引亲党”等罪名，髙宗听信后便贬赵鼎潮州安罝。而赵鼎深感冤杆，在《辩诬笔录》中详细论列車情的经过，一件件驳斥，以彰自身清白。“据《四库全书未收书目提要》云：‘足编前有自序，称学术迂僻，与众背驰，所上前后数千章，期间岂无传播失实.风闻文饰之误，不得不辨。其他他细故，无足深较云云。’
