或谓孔子曰：“子奚不为政？”子曰：“《书》云：‘孝乎惟孝，友于兄弟，施于有政。’是亦为政，奚其为为政？”

有人问孔子：“您为什么不出仕做官、参与国家政府的管理呢？”孔子回答：“《尚书》里是如何阐述孝子的义务的？‘对父母尽职尽责，对兄弟团结友爱，在家庭管理中减轻自己的责任。’而这些也是政府的责任呀。那么为了减轻政府责任，为什么非要出仕做官，参与政府管理呢？”
