孔子对其故国的大乐师说：“我认为我知道完整的乐团以什么方式演奏一篇乐章。首先，应当控制乐章中声音的最高点；然后在演奏的过程中，必须注意并清楚明晰而流畅地演奏出乐章的每一个音符本身所具备的声音，不要中断，不要停息，直到演奏完毕。”
