题近溪子明道录 耿定向

余曩为近溪子题《疏山会语》,其词甚俚且赣,近溪子不以余为迕,若谓有契于心者,梓而传之矣。顷,杜生来自滇,将公泉胡公大命复以其集问序于余。嗟!余于近溪子窃附忘言之交矣,又何言与?又何言与!顾余兹有积疑于衷,非近溪子末余释也,藉手以就质正,可乎?

惟近代二三魁儒岿然负山斗望者,其谭说名理,若蒙雾观花、隔靴搔痒,不独无当诸慧目,即庸虚如余,读其书亦不欲竟卷已。考其生平而仰溯其心神,则故爝然粹然媲美前修而楷程后进也。藉令其人而在,虽负墙执鞭所欣慕焉。至若晚近一二谭学者,高极大言、小言、微言、浅言、正言、反言,即其诙言、绮言无不沃于吾衷已。视其本诸身而超然丽然,徵诸家庭而雍然翕然,推之于交于民物而盎然蔼然油油然熙熙然日见之履者,即其所语语者也,盖实有诸己矣,故又冲然焰然未尝施施然自是而自矜也。亡论初机浅学,即披淄操觚者流,苟一言有几于道,未尝不赞叹而谨识之,如获拱璧然。所谓若无若虚者,殆庶几耶。

吁!世之学道者,胥如近溪子,余又何疑?顾余前所疑者,非徒求诸人,实求自得于心也。近溪子何以解之?虽然,专精于身心性命之微,耻矜妍于文字之末;实践于亲亲长长之际,不驰骛于高远之归,是近溪子之学,亦近溪子之教也。盛其学者,弗思归求之此而于彼,此亦余所疑矣!不知近溪子又何以裁之也?
