南宋学者陈淳的重要伦理学著作。原名《字义详讲》,又称《四书字义》、《四书性理字义》、《经书字义》、《北溪陈氏字义》。约成书于宋宝庆二年(1226年)。是陈淳学生王隽根据陈淳晚年讲学笔记整理集编,由陈淳“笔削”修改而成的。此书是理解朱熹《四书集注》的重要参考书。分上、下两卷,共26条目。从朱熹《四书章句集注》等书中选取若干重要范畴,逐一加以疏释论述。全书以伦理道德为主要内容,激烈抨击陆学,维护朱学立场。《北溪字义》承袭了程朱的天理论,说“未有天地之先,固先有是理。” (《北溪字义·道》)把具有伦理属性的理作为世界万物的本源。
