我国第一部编年史兼历史散文集。相传为孔子所编。记载周王朝、鲁国及其它各国大事，上起鲁隐公元年，下迄鲁哀公十四年，共二百四十二年。行文简扼谨严，寓带褒贬，称“春秋笔法”，对后世历史著作和散文著作甚有影响。解释《春秋》者有“左氏”、“公羊”、“穀梁”三传。《左氏传》相传为鲁左丘明所撰，侧重释其史事。《公羊传》相传为齐公羊高所撰， 《穀梁传》相传为鲁穀梁赤所撰，侧重释其文字体例。《春秋》与三传本来单行，晋以后将其文字分载于各传有关内容之前，称《春秋左氏传》、《春秋公羊传》、《春秋穀梁传》。著名注本有晋杜预《春秋经传集解》、东汉何休《春秋公羊解诂》、晋范宁《春秋榖梁传集解》。有《十三经注疏》本。
