乾元子三始论，撰人不详。从内容看，乾元子似为唐代道士。一卷，收入《正统道藏》洞真部方法类。本篇袭取《周易干凿度》之说，论述天地万物生成之序，认为天地起于无形无象之「太易」，太易一变而为太初，再变而为太始，三变而为太素。太初为气之始，太始为形之始，太素为质之始，三者合称为三始。「万物莫不由此三始而煦育焉」。天地之阴阳变化，终而复始，故曰自强不息。
