不题撰人。避唐讳，盖唐人所撰。楠山春树《太上混元真录 考》 (《吉冈博士还历记念道教研究论集》，国书刊行会，1977 年)认为本书撰于唐，不迟于法琳、道宣，几与尹文操同时。本 书鲜见其他传本。述老君自殷周以来历代降生的神话及传道与关尹之事。其思想以“太虚为上,存真为宝”。又曰:“伪道养形,真道养神。”其修炼则主“行气”与“存三一之法”,而排斥导引、辟谷之术。其中言及老子西游,开化西域、天竺之事,显然受《老子化胡经》的影响。收入《道藏》第604册。
