清代乾、嘉时期甘肃著名的道医刘一明所著《经验奇方》是一部内、外、妇、儿科的综合性专著，在每一疾病门类之后，首先以概述的形式介绍该病的主要特点及病因病机，其次论述治疗该病的主要方药。这种病症与方药相结合的论述方法具有条理分明、纲举目张的特点。如咳嗽门中云：“咳嗽之症不一，有受风而咳嗽者，有受热而咳嗽者，有积痰而咳嗽者，有伤劳而咳嗽者，有痨瘵而咳嗽者，有吼喘而咳嗽者。其病多皆系肺经受伤而然，当因其所受而治之。”扼要地将咳嗽的病因、病位描述得清清楚楚。
