庆历中，贾昌朝镇北都，因奏韩魏公治恩、[异]〔冀〕河流，断赵征[侍]〔村〕冈势，不利国姓，致皇嗣未立。仁宗即日中批付侍御史知杂吴中复亟往按治，一日受内降至七封。中复固请对乃〔行〕。既对，以所授内降面乞尽付中书、门下行出，乃敢奉诏。上初甚咈，吴固争不已，乃从之。时人谓之「铁面御史」。
