凡四卷，林时对撰。时对字殿扬，号玺庵；浙江鄞县人。明崇祯庚辰（十三年）成进士，授行人司行人；历八月余，奉使南旋。弘光立南都，以使科都给事中召；未赴。鲁王监国，累迁太常寺卿，晋右副都御史,兼署兵垣。事去，杜门不出而终。当在北都时，凡朝常典故及国计民生利病安危，细细札记。放废以后，积纂成书，名曰「荷牐丛谈」。计卷一共二十二则、卷二共二十三则，大体为明初至天启年间事；卷三共二十三则，为祟祯朝事；卷四共十二则，则为南明诸王以及郑氏海上事。其在一、二卷中，偏重记述掌故；至三、四卷，则以评叙史事为多。
