本书（一册六八面四○、八○○字）选自「大清文宗显皇帝实录」之集辑，为清咸豊朝对台湾所作设施之纪录。在此一朝（一八五○～六一）中，内有咸豊三年太平天国事变，外有八年英法联军入侵之役。当时台湾所受内战影响甚少，而在外患方面却已启外人觊觎之渐。道光三十年，有英人欲往鸡笼采煤并有「福建港口亏折甚多，思换台湾作为港口」一议之纪载，即为后来与英法等国签订天津条约开辟台湾口岸之张本。此外，则有咸豊二年洪纪及三年林恭等事变发生。因所纪无多，本书选辑尺度略见放宽。
