三桂为明季罪人，又为本朝反贼，其生平亦何足道！以道路之口，传闻之笔，事多淆讹，难以传信，故略述其概。惟桂本贯辽东，藩封南，余生长浙东，又何能得其始末耶？缘余甲寅、乙卯间遭大难，丙辰用奇计遁迹江西，至吉安招抚韩大任，任自幼随桂，为余言甲申至丙辰事甚悉。得大任戊午归正之后，余又奉差往汉中，被羁贵州。时桂孙世藩嗣，据伪位，以贵阳为行在，其伪尚书郭昌、来度，与余交最契，每详言桂之末路。今虽不及具载，而源尾亦略可见云。侣云道人转庵孙旭识。
