金钱会匪起于咸丰八年。有卖笔者金华周兆荣，流寓青田，粗识字，能卜卦，取妻于青田小溪，以妖术教人吃菜。入其教者，出钱二百五十，投沸汤中煮，焚以符咒，取汤饮之，刀棒不能伤，谓之“铜钱壮”，聚于永嘉青田之山中。是时粤贼已陷处州，村民惧引寇，一夕纠众掩之，毁其巢。而青田令亦名捕兆荣甚急，兆荣遂走温州，流转至平阳钱仓镇，易名曰周荣。
