二卷,不著撰人名氏,据书中所述,盖宋初人也。其书记吴杨氏、南唐李氏、蜀王氏孟氏、南汉刘氏、闽王氏之事,以其地而论,当云四国,以其人而论,当云六国,称曰五国,未详其例。虽属传记,却杂民间传说、趣闻、轶事。五国藩王,多出身微贱,当地位一变,暴政残民,不减前朝。吴主有“烟凝楚岫愁千点,雨滴吴江泪万行”的诗句,正是战乱中人民痛苦的心声。
