短篇小说。完成于1943年7月22日,最初发表于同年11月文艺阵地社出版的“文阵新辑之一”:《去国》,署名茅盾。后收入重庆建国书店1945年出版的《委屈》,人民文学出版社1959年出版的《茅盾文集》8卷、1980年出版的《茅盾短篇小说集》及1985年出版的《茅盾全集》9卷。作品通过军人张文安因病准予长假并得师长馈赠一千元医药费转赠重病在床的军人陈海清之妻的故事,揭示了国民党统治下民众在死亡线上挣扎的悲惨命运,赞扬了农民之间传统的互相救助的高尚品德,同时也表明了农民抗战到底的热情与决心。故事感人,作者巧妙地通过局部生活的描写,多方位地反映了旧社会的实质。
