短篇小说。完成于1936年5月27日,最初发表于同年7月1日《文学》7卷1号“儿童文学”专号上(预告题目为《流浪儿》),署名茅盾。先后收入良友图书印刷公司1937年出版的《烟云集》,人民文学出版社1959年出版的《茅盾文集》8卷,1980年出版的《茅盾短篇小说集》与1985年出版的《茅盾全集》9集。这是一篇别具一格的散文特写式小说,真实而生动地塑造了流浪儿的典型形象。通过他的生活经历描写了他的卑贱与纯真,特别是自发的是非观念:好人帮好人。他悄悄送回游行者遗失的钱袋,并和他们一块游行喊口号——他开始觉醒了。作品通过这一典型人物塑造反映了大动荡时代气息: “一二·九”运动带来的变化。
