故事说的是一名叫陈逸群的海龟青年，因病去到杭州静养，想起自己的各种罗曼史，以及在杭州各种艳遇的事情。故事表达出了当时在各个西方列强压迫下，中国爱国青年的愁苦和无助。本篇最初发表时，未完，作者未曾续写，也未收入集子或单独出版。其中第一章至第四章（除第四章最后一节）曾在一九二六年六月《创造月刊》第四期上发表过。
