一间黑漆漆的不大不小的地房里，搭着几张纵横的床铺。与房门相对的北面壁上有一口小窗，从这窗里射进来的十月中旬的一天晴朗的早晨的光线，在小窗下的床上照出了一个二十五六岁的青年的睡容来。这青年的面上带着疲倦的样子，本来没有血色的他的睡容，因为房内的光线不好，更苍白得怕人。他的头上的一头漆黑粗长的头发，便是他的唯一的美点，蓬蓬的散在一个白布的西洋枕上。
