短篇小说。周文(署名何谷天)作，载《文学》1933年9月1日1卷4号。写一支军阀部队在西康大雪山的冰天雪地里艰苦行军的故事，士兵们饥寒交迫，他们的“生命不如一只鸡”，军官们克扣军饷，中饱私囊，横行不法，终于激起士兵哗变。刻划了夏得海等普通士兵的形象，对话、叙述也多用旧军人的口头禅及方言土语，题材新鲜，有生活实感，发表后颇得好评。1934年，美国伊罗生编选英译中国现代短篇集《草鞋脚》，鲁迅向他推荐此篇。
