本书发表于1921年。《绿霉火腿》写邬伯强到日本东京留学，因为带来的火腿长了绿霉而生出一系列事端，先是房东发难说他不应该把火腿挂在墙上，后是番头责难他没有把火腿挂到厕所里，直到朋友子琛来探望，火腿被番头等一干人吃掉，伯强才得到番头的尊重，但他还是觉得受不了民族歧视和人格侮辱而搬走了，反映了贫苦学生在经济压迫下的困顿苦闷，求学无门的艰辛无助。
