书前有作者嘉靖辛亥（1551）小引，称其自幼闻其母言明初遗事，盖其外祖陆源生授其母，母授文禄，乃为追述幼闻，纪念其母。又均记明太祖事，故曰《龙兴慈记》。该书经口传，其于史已愈远，而其传说色彩却愈重。所记故事并不留心史事真伪，而好于人物言行中见其性格及精神面貌。现有《广百川学海》、《百陵学山》、《盐邑志林》、《经录汇编》等本。今据《续说郛》本整理。
