答王远孝问
问：一般人认为佛教并不能救国，则是佛教思想不适合于抗战期中？
答：此为一般人对于佛教之论调，以为佛教不如回教适合抗战，因回教徒能团结抗争。然云佛教不适合于抗战，非佛教本身无组织不能抗战，因偏用佛教一部分消极自了，而不用大乘救世精神，或致人口减少，政纲日弛，于是归过于佛教。若能发挥大乘佛教救世精神，自可救国救民。（程心勉记）（见海刊二十六卷六七期合刊）
