此文是净土宗九祖蕅益大师对《佛说斋经》的注释，本经主要讲述如何受持“八关斋戒”。大师是明末清初高僧，与莲池大师、紫柏大师、憨山大师一起被称为明末四大高僧。大师初出家即以参禅为业，不久开悟，后又习天台，导归极乐，为净土宗九祖。而其终生倡导戒律，虽非律宗祖师，却在严肃戒律方便功勋卓著，但其自身受具足戒不敢称比丘，而仅称沙弥，此处“求寂男”就是沙弥的意思。智旭是大师法名，蕅益是大师之字。
