《贤愚经》，一名《贤愚因缘经》，是很特殊的一部佛典，其虽名为“经”，但实际上是一部“佛教故事集”，是叙述因缘故事的典籍。全书共分十三卷、六十九品（节），也就是说共讲了六十九个故事。实际上其包括的故事更多，因为往往一品中包含很多小故事。北魏太平真君六年（445）凉州（今甘肃武威）沙门慧觉（一作昙觉）等译。 译者慧觉、威德等八人，曾西行求经至于阗（今新疆和田）大寺，遇见当地五年一次举行的般遮于瑟会。会中长老各讲经律，他们八人分别听了记录下来，译成汉文，于公元445年回到高昌，综集成为这一部经，又经过流沙，送到凉州，凉州名僧慧朗将它题名《贤愚经》。
