佛教经典 (以小大乘摄集而成)。相传为中国第一部汉译佛经。后汉迦叶摩腾和竺法兰共译于汉明帝永平十年(67)。一卷。 据《高僧传》卷一、《出三藏记集》卷二等载,竺法兰、迦叶摩腾均为中印度人,永平十年应汉使邀请来到洛阳。竺法兰除译出本书外,还译有《十地断结经》、《佛本生经》、《法海藏经》、《佛本行经》等。因全经共有四十二篇短小经文,故题名为《四十二章经》。
