齐景公有马千驷，死之日，民无德而称焉。伯夷叔齐饿死于首阳之下，民到于今称之。“诚不以富，亦只以异。”其斯之谓与？

提到新近过世的一位诸侯（齐景公，姓姜，名杵臼，春秋后期齐国国君），孔子说：“在他有生之年，他有千套马车；但是在他死的那天，百姓没说他一句好话。而另一方面，古代的杰出人士伯夷、叔齐，饿死在一座孤山之下，到现在这种声名还广为流传。就像这首诗所说——
‘钱财对于个人来说就是身外之物，满足他人所需，才是真正的追求目标。’”
