永泰初，禁中失火，焚屋室数十间，与东宫稍迫近，代宗深惊疑之。赵涓为巡使，令即讯。涓周立案验，乃上直中官遗火所致也。推鞫明审，颇尽事情，代宗甚嘉赏焉。
德宗在东宫，常感涓之究理详细，及典衢州，年老，韩滉奏请免其官。德宗见其名，谓宰相曰：“岂非永泰初御史赵涓乎？”
对曰：“然。”即日拜尚书左丞。
