故相李勉任江西观察使时，部人有父病蛊，乃为木偶人，置勉名位，瘗于其垄。或发以告勉，勉曰：“为父禳灾，是亦可矜也。”舍之。
或曰：“李勉失守梁城，亦宜贬黜。”
议曰：“不然。当李希烈之怙乱，其锋不可当，天方厚其罪而降之罚也。矧应变非长，援军不至，又其时关辅已亻叔扰矣，人心摇动矣，以文吏之才，当虎狼之队，乃全师南奔，非量力者能乎！”
