故相国杨炎未仕时，尝梦陟高山之巅，下瞰人境，杳不可辨；仰而视之，见瑞日在咫尺，红光赫然，洞照万里。公因举左右手以捧之，炎燠之气，如热心目。久而方寤。视其手，尚沥然而汗。公异之，因语于人。有解者曰：“夫日者，人君像也。今梦登山以捧日，将非登相位而辅人君乎？”其后杨公周历清贯，遂登相位。果叶捧日之祥也。
