贞元中，相国窦参为御史中丞。尝一夕梦德宗召对于便殿，问以经国之务。上喜，因以锦半臂赐之。及寤，奇其梦，默而念曰：“臂者，庇也。大邑所以庇吾身也。今梦半臂者，岂上以我叨居显位，将给半俸，俾我致政乎？”蹙然久之。因以梦话于人，客有解曰：“公之梦，祥符也。且半臂者，盖被股肱之衣也。今公梦天子赐之，岂非上将以股肱之位而委公乎？”明日，果拜中书侍郎平章事。
