第三章 汉之画学
自汉高祖元年乙未，迄献帝建安二十四年己亥，即纪元前二〇六年至纪元二一九年，凡四百二十余年，是为汉代。当其盛时，兵威远震异域，图画之事，外与域外艺术时相接触交换；内则代有帝王相当之提倡；习绘事者，渐有著名之士夫，不如前代之仅限于工匠。惟其所作，则仍多取材于经史故事。故汉代图画，在艺术上虽呈变态；以应用论，实为礼教化极盛时期。或者谓中国明确之画史，实始于汉。盖汉以前之历史，尚不免有一部分之传疑；入汉而关于图画之记录，翔实可征者较多云。
